Advertisements may have fooled you into thinking that certain pies are only for specific times of the year, but pecan pie is good all year round! If you think that’s a bunch of hooey, July 12th is Pecan Pie Day! Pecans are native to North America, so it makes sense that the delicious creation that is pecan pie originated in the Americas by the French (debatable) who settled in Louisiana after the Civil War. Although there is little evidence to Support that the French created pecan pie, everyone began using pecans for baking. The first recipe ever published that resembles what we know as a pecan pie was published in 1898 in St. Louis. This pie didn’t get as popular and known as it is today until the 1920s.
The original pecan pie is made with eggs, butter, and milk, which are all easily replaced with plant-based ingredients. These pecan pie recipes do not contain any of these ingredients and are just as sweet and decadent as the original!
