Two Bobcats Set Up For the ‘Purrfect Match’ (VIDEO)

Love is in the air at Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Fla., where a little cat matchmaking is going on. Bobcats Max and Mary Ann have been set up for the “Purrfect Matc: at the big cat sanctuary.

Max is a three-year-old bobcat who was born in Rhode Island. His unique story comes with many legal twist and turns. At less than a year old, he was bought as a pet and then seized by a local vet’s office. The guardian spent a month trying to get Max back through the courts but the State eventually won because keeping a bobcat as a pet in Rhode Island is illegal. Since Max was born in captivity, he ended up at Big Cat Rescue as he wouldn’t have been able to survive in the wild.

Mary Ann is older than Max, at six years of age, and lived out most of her pre-Big Cat Rescue life in a 5 x 10 foot cage, exposed to the elements in Kansas. Like Max, she was born and raised in captivity, leaving her without the right knowledge and skills to survive in the wild. However, she has been able to adjust fairly quickly to her new life at Big Cat Rescue.

It was a pretty extensive process to get these two to meet, including both cats being fixed, in case things went a little too well. Of course, the long process is appropriate because like any matchmaker, you can’t just rush the two individuals into it. Although not typical of Big Cat Rescue, it is nice to see them making these bobcat’s lives even better by providing them with a companion.

The only question remains, due to the age difference, can Mary Ann be considered a cougar, if she’s already a bobcat?
