Batzilla the Bat is a Facebook page run by Denise Wade, the volunteer “flying fox coordinator” at Bat Conservation and Rescue QLD in Brisbane, Australia. She can have up to 60 bats in her care at any given time, mostly orphans and those who are injured. Denise says she started the Facebook page with a conservation message in mind, hoping that sharing cute videos of rescued bats would help change the public’s perception of them and help protect bats from being killed.
In the above video, a young rescued bat they named Charles is leisurely chomping on a yummy meal of grapes and bananas, his favorite. Charles was found on the street with an injured wing, but after a closer look, it was discovered his injuries were not serious, and he is expected to soon be well enough to join the rest of the rescued bats in the flight aviary.
If you have fallen in love with Charles, please visit the Batzilla the Bat Facebook page for more adorable bat stories. As cute as bats may be though, please never handle wildlife on their own. Seeing as bats can spread deadly diseases like rabies, Wade had to undergo vaccinations before being able to handle wild bats. If you happen to see a wild animal in need of help, please do not touch it, and call a local animal rescue to address the matter.
