The world is filled with diverse and interesting animal species. But the more we learn about them, the more we realize that these creatures are not as different as they may seem. Take meerkats for example! These fluffy little critters are exactly what you’d get if you combined the family bonding behaviors of dogs, the bodies of squirrels, and the faces of raccoons.
This clip may be short, but it shows some really neat meerkat behaviors around 22 seconds in. For one, check out just how many meerkats there are in that tunnel! Researchers have observed 50 plus meerkats living together in one tunnel.
You can also see mommy meerkat stand on her hind legs to survey the area while everyone else greets the day. Don’t feel sorry for her because she had to wake up first, though, meerkats take watch shifts, which means that she’s going to spend the rest of the day laying around eating. Sounds good to us!
