Kristen Bell, star of movies, television and one absurdly cute meltdown, has made the switch from vegetarian (since age 11) to a full fledged vegan. This change in diet came about after the starlet viewed the documentary Forks Over Knives, which explores the connection between animal products and degenerative diseases.
According to Kristen’s Interview in Women’s Health, ”It’s more about the health benefits than the ethics. But it’s compounded by the fact that I love animals and feel better not eating them.”
Her fiancé actor/comedian Dax Shepard has also made the switch, coming from an omnivore diet, adding one more to the list of high profile vegans.
Don’t let the sudden change in diet fool you though, Bell feels more than at home in a kitchen and her and Dax maybe eating different but they’re not going hungry. Bell even grows her own produce, in her words, “There’s cilantro, sage, baby greens. Carrots, broccoli, kale, potatoes, cauliflower. These are strawberries. Romaine, butter lettuce, thyme… Ooh, the spinach is coming up real nice.”
It’s fantastic that so many people, especially those in the public eye are choosing to leave animals off of their plates. One of the greatest aspects of this change, besides the obvious lack of cruelty, is the multitude of reasons behind these choices some do it for the environment, some because of the humane aspects and others do it for personal health.
Whether it’s one, two or all three of these reasons the world is a better place with more vegans like Bell and Shepard.
