Japan to Resume Whale Hunt

Japan has confirmed it will go ahead with its annual whale hunt and will increase security to protect its fleet against anti-whaling activists.

Last season, Japan cut short its annual whale hunt in the Antarctic after repeated harassment by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

“Japan will conduct the research whaling while strengthening measures against acts of sabotage, including dispatching Fisheries Agency escort ships,” said Fisheries Minister Michihiko Kano.

Commercial whaling has been banned across the world for 25 years, but Japan continues to kill hundreds of whales every year under the guise of scientific research.
