Cat Recovers at Sanctuary After Being Intentionally Set on Fire

At Our Farm Sanctuary in Tipp City, a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty came to light when a volunteer discovered a cat who had been deliberately set on fire. The severely burned cat was found hiding under a car, prompting immediate action by the sanctuary’s staff.

Sophia Kartsonis, Director of Our Farm Sanctuary, explained that the cat had been doused in accelerant before someone callously flicked a cigarette at him. The sanctuary rushed the injured cat to an animal hospital, where he has been receiving care. “He had burns from head to toe,” Kartsonis said, clearly shaken by the incident.

The cat is now recovering at Care Center Dayton, as Trotwood police work to find the person responsible for this cruel act. It is believed that the cat was set on fire at a nearby apartment complex. Kartsonis urged the community to recognize the severity of the situation, stating, “I think even if you don’t value animals, this is someone in your community that needs to be looked at closely.”

Having devoted her life to helping animals, Kartsonis admits that this is the most distressing case she has ever encountered. Despite the traumatic experience, the cat is making progress and may have a hopeful future if he starts eating on his own. The sanctuary has given him the name Fotis, derived from the word for light and a common Greek male name.

As Fotis continues to heal, Our Farm Sanctuary plans to pair him with a foster, with the ultimate goal of finding him a loving forever home. “We are really tough on our adoptions anyway, but this will be a little special,” Kartsonis shared.
