1. Equal Exchange

EqualExchange

 Equal Exchange is one of the largest democratic worker cooperatives in the United States. Over 100 worker-owners have the following rights:

  • The right to vote
  • The right to serve as a board director
  • Open-access to information
  • Freedom of speech
  • Equitable distribution of resources (i.e. income)

Equal Exchange was founded in 1986 to challenge the existing model of global trade. Through the cooperative model, they engage in what they consider to be authentic fair trade. Their coffee is certified organic by Oregon Tilth. Popular varieties include the Organic Breakfast Blend, Mind Body Soul and Love Buzz.
