An Israeli startup has made it its mission to create biodegradable, non-toxic, and low-energy textiles, all using algae.

This fashion brand is using algae to create fabric-like fibers that can be woven together to create fabric and clothes. This process creates less Pollution and needs less water to create. Which is what makes it a much more sustainable option.

Renana Krebs, CEO and co-founder of Algaeing, said that they wanted to, “Harness the power of renewable algae to create a real, genuine impact against Climate change.”

Algaeing was launched in 2016 by Krebs after she had worked in the fashion industry. Seeing first hand just how bad it is for the environment.

The special process that they use to create their textiles includes turning the algae into a liquid. It can then be used as a dye or turned into a textile.

Many other fashion brands are catching on as several have started to experiment with algae textiles. While other plant-based fabrics are becoming popular as well, as you can now find eucalyptus clothing.

The fashion industry is incredibly wasteful and uses up many precious reserves. Whether that be water, labor, or land.

But these types of plant fabrics can help to change all of that and make the fashion industry more sustainable. So that you can still enjoy a new shirt without knowing all of the destruction that it helped cause.
