DIY beauty projects are pretty amazing, aren’t they? If you use natural ingredients, you save yourself from chemicals. And whipping up things at home can also save you a pretty penny, too. While you have to put a little bit of effort in, yes, it’s usually totally worth it! And then there are some ingredients you can use over and over again in all sorts of beauty projects, like apple cider vinegar and lemons. Well, add cinnamon to the list, because we’ve got some ideas for how you can use it in all sorts of fun DIY beauty projects! As the Huffington Post explains, cinnamon has been used for a very long time as a way to cure what ails us: “Cinnamon has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to remedy illnesses, including the flu and indigestion. The fragrant spice contains calcium, fiber, iron, and manganese, and within its bark are healing essential oils.” Now, we can take this healing spice and apply it to our DIY beauty fun for one heck of a healing yet beautifying party! Read on for some ways to use cinnamon in your DIY beauty fixes:
Seriously, this is the easiest mix ever. Add 2 tablespoons of cinnamon to 3 teaspoons of cornstarch and mix well. Apply to your face lightly with a bronzer brush for a light, totally natural glow sans all of the chemicals you’ll find in a traditional face powder. If it comes out too dark for your skin tone, add a little less cinnamon on your next batch.
This is the easiest ever, too. Add a pinch of cinnamon to a tablespoon of melted (but cooled) coconut oil for a glowing and moisturizing lip fix in a pinch! The coconut oil will add a light smoothness, and the cinnamon will give it a sweet color.
This one requires a few more ingredients, but it’s not that much more, and you’ll love the versatility of this easy all-over bronzer for use on your face, your arms, your chest — wherever you want some extra glow!
Make an easy exfoliating face scrub by putting together 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 2 tablespoons coconut nectar. Blend this together and rub on to your face very gently in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and be greeted with softened skin! This can also be used on rough patches of skin anywhere on your body. Plus, it smells delicious!
Got something going on in that mouth of yours? Gargle a bit of warm cinnamon water (a few tablespoons of warm water with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon added in) to tame that funkiness fast! Use this whenever you’re in a breath situation — it might even work to carry a little bit of cinnamon with you in your bag if you want to keep that breath fresh. This works much better than chomping on some chemical-laden gum, for sure.
