Levi’s Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers, is taking sustainability to new heights—literally. The stadium has created an organic rooftop farm called “Faithful Farm,” making it the first professional sports venue to integrate a farm into its structure. This innovative space produces a variety of vegetables and herbs, which will be served to fans during events like football games and concerts.
The Faithful Farm, nestled on the NRG Solar Terrace of the SAP Tower, spans 4,000 square feet and boasts nearly 40 rotating crops. Since July, it has been harvesting produce such as tomatoes, squash, eggplants, peppers, and herbs. Managed by Farmscape, the farm is expected to yield around 150 pounds of produce each week, contributing a total of approximately 7,500 pounds annually.
The farm’s impact extends beyond fresh food for fans. It supports local jobs, raises awareness about sustainable agriculture, and serves as an example of what can be grown in urban spaces. As Lara Hermanson from Farmscape put it, “The Faithful Farm represents the strongest commitment an NFL team has made to local, organic produce.”
Levi’s Stadium’s executive chef, Dinari Brown, is using the fresh produce to create seasonal dishes for events. Current menu items include unique creations like Truffled Summer Squash and Dungeness Crab Risotto, and Heirloom Tomato and Fried Eggplant Napoleon. These dishes showcase the fresh ingredients grown right at the stadium.
In addition to serving food on-site, Levi’s Stadium is extending its community impact by partnering with Hunger at Home and the Salvation Army. The stadium donates unused prepared food to help those in need, and the farm’s produce contributes to this effort, making fresh, healthy options available to people facing food insecurity.
