Heroic Pit Bull Mix Calls 911, Saving Veteran’s Life [Video]

From nose to tail, dogs are fantastic companion animals. Dogs stick by you through the good and the bad, never judging you for who you are or by the choices you make. Always smiling and happy to raise your spirits, you can honestly say they are like four-legged furry cheerleaders!

But what about the other amazing things dogs can do? Let’s take medical service dogs, specifically seizure dogs, for example. A seizure dog is specially trained to detect when their person is about to have a seizure and some smart pouches even use the phone to call for help. And calling for help is exactly what Major the pit bull-lab mix mutt did for Terry McGlade.

Suffering from PTSD after having served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, Terry got Major, a rescue dog trained to sense his oncoming seizures. Having a dog around was also helping Terry with PTSD. So when he suffered a seizure that eventually left him unconscious, Major called 911 by stepping on the screen to activate the emergency auto-dial. Even though dispatchers could not hear much on the call, they could sense something was wrong.

The hero dog went and waited in the front yard for police, then took them to an unconscious Terry. What an awesome buddy!

“Right now, he is my world because he is an extension to my body, I don’t think I could operate in the everyday world without him right now,” said Terry.
