Rescuers Refused to Give Up on Puppy Who Was Hit By a Car and Dumped in a Donation Bin

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

Instead of a bundle of thoughtful gifts from kind people, what the team from the Animal Welfare League recently found in their donation bin, was an injured puppy. The puppy was discovered early in the morning, although the team was obviously thankful that the dog had been brought to the right place, they were also puzzled as to why the puppy had been left in the bin instead of brought in to the building.

“Animal Welfare League never turns away an animal in need,” the rescuers write in a Facebook post, “and it is always best to bring the animal inside so staff can do what is necessary to help the animal.”

Sunshine, a three-month-old Cairn terrier, had quite a lot of luck to be found quickly, before a pile of donations had a chance to cover her up.

When she was found, Sunshine was already in critical condition. She had multiple scrapes and bruises on her body and was shaking uncontrollably…

Sunshine was immediately brought in for emergency care – she was thoroughly examined and x-rayed, as a result of which the veterinarians found that she had most likely been hit by a car and dragged. The scrapes and bruises on Sunshine’s body were a result of road rash and head trauma was highly suspected. The puppy was now under around the clock medical observation, receiving IV fluids, pain medication, antibiotics, and topical ointment for road rash – everything to save her life and health, the rescuers assured. “She is such a sweet girl and we are hoping for a miracle,” they wrote.

Tragically, the quick and loving help Sunshine received did not manage to save her – and the puppy passed over to the rainbow bridge.

The cause of Sunshine’s passing away was most probably the head trauma she had sustained. She was not alone and not in pain during the last moments – and she was made as comfortable as possible.

“Days like today are always hard, a million ‘what ifs’ cross our teams minds,” the team writes. “Thank you to everyone who sent prayers and donations for this baby, you make it possible to give every single animal that comes through our doors a fighting chance.”

Sunshine did not manage to win with her injuries – but many dogs like her are still waiting for their miracles. You can help them by making a donation through the rescue’s website.

  1. Well, I cried reading this story.
But out of respect for the poor little thing I read the article to the end.
This article show just how different people are. 1 person just dumps the puppy, then others do everything they can to save her.
It must be so tough to work in the centre, emotionally unbearable sometimes.
There are such beautiful people out there and that can only give us all hope.
The biggest thank you and the most love to the teams who work so hard to saves these innocent lives.
