Esteban Payán, Ph.D.

Esteban Payán, Ph.D. Colombia, 1977. Esteban was educated between his home country, England, and the U.S.A. He studied Biology at Universidad de Los Andes and received his Ph.D. in 2009 from University College London and the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London. Over the past 20 years of experience, his projects have focused on carnivore conservation throughout South America, with a focus in Colombia. He is currently South America Regional Director at Panthera, a global wild cat conservation organization devoted exclusively to preserving wild cats and their critical role in the world’s ecosystems. He has published more than 30 papers between articles and book chapters, and has edited three books “Grandes Felinos de Colombia”, “Conservación de Grandes Vertebrados en Areas No Protegidas” and “Conflicto entre felinos y humanos en América Latina.”
